CHIEF Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that a state-of-the-art Pakistan Kidney & Liver Institute and Research Centre is being set up in the provincial metropolis.
He said the project in Knowledge Park would be a glorious addition to public health facility. He said the completion of the institute and research centre would result in availability of the latest treatment facilities to patients under one-roof. He said Pakistan Kidney & Liver Institute and Research Centre would be a unique project in the country and a milestone in the public health sector. He said that free treatment facilities would be provided to the poor in the institute.
Presiding over a meeting, here Friday, the chief minister said improvement of health sector and provision of modern treatment facilities to the masses was the government priority and development projects of billion of rupees were being completed speedily in health sector for the provision of better healthcare facilities to the citizens. He said that an effective strategy had been adopted for ensuring availability of doctors and medicines in the hospitals. He said that autonomous board of governors had been set up for looking after the administrative affairs of the institute. He said the institute would be made a state-of-the-art institution of South Asia and the latest medical facilities of international standard would be available to the patients.
He directed that austerity should be maintained in the construction work. He said that provincial steering committee should adopt measures expeditiously for the implementation of the project. Shahbaz Sharif directed that all institutions concerned should provide maximum cooperation to Pakistan Kidney & Liver Institute and Research Centre.
He constituted a committee for the purchase of medical equipment for the project.
President BoGs of Pakistan Kidney & Liver Institute and Research Centre Dr Saeed Akhtar while giving a briefing on the pace of the project said the centre would be a benchmark and the all-out effort would be made for its completion within stipulated period.
Balanced development: Shahbaz Sharif has said that public welfare schemes are being executed in the province on priority basis and funds saved through financial discipline and austerity policy are being utilised for progress and prosperity of citizens and provision of basic amenities to them.
He said the provincial government was following a policy of balanced development of all areas and more funds would be allocated in the new budget for the uplift of South Punjab districts than the ratio of their population.
According to a handout issued here Friday, the chief minister said this while presiding over a meeting which reviewed the targets of the budget of the new fiscal year and Annual Development Programme 2015-16.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said more funds would be provided for raising the living standard of masses and development of less-developed areas. He directed that priorities should be set on realistic basis under ADP of the new fiscal year for strengthening the economy of the province and all departments should fix short, medium and long-term targets. He said special attention should be paid to achievement of the objective of a stable economy and durable development while third-party audit policy should be strictly implemented in development projects. He directed that the targets should be set for increasing growth rate in the province and vigorous efforts should be made for their achievement. He said proper and transparent utilisation of funds should be ensured like the previous years. He said an effective mechanism should be adopted for the provision of best services to the citizens. He said the Punjab government was successfully implementing Skill Development Programme and thousands of youths had been imparted various skills under this programme. He said that efforts would be made for effective implementation of Skill Development Programme and the achievement of future targets. He directed that implementation of youth empowerment policy through imparting them various skills should be continued. He said that attention would have to be paid to value addition for progress of livestock, dairy development and other important sectors. He said the institutions and departments associated with social sector would have to prove their efficiency and move forward in a professional manner. He said the departments concerned would have to work round-the-clock for increasing growth rate. He said timely completion of energy projects was the government priority.
thalassaemia-free: Shahbaz Sharif has said that the problem caused by thalassaemia to the patient and his family are very serious and there is a need to pay special attention to the thalassaemia patients by the society.
In a message on World Thalassaemia Day, Shahbaz Sharif said thalassaemia is a very painful disease for the innocent children and there is a need to resolve on this day that efforts would be continued to make Pakistan Thalassaemia-free country. He said the scope of thalassaemia prevention programme had been extended to 22 districts of Punjab while regional centres were operating in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Bahawalpur for thalassaemia tests. He said that coordinated and collective measures were needed to defeat thalassaemia.
He said the Punjab government was utilising maximum resources for felicitating thalassaemia patients as well as those suffering from other diseases and was also patronising such welfare organisations which were engaged in humanitarian services regarding this disease. He said thalassaemia test should be conducted before marriage so that the future generations could be saved from this fatal disease.
energy sector: German Ambassador Dr Cyrill Nunn called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, here, Friday. Matters of mutual interest, promotion of bilateral relations, enhancing cooperation in energy and other sectors were discussed during the meeting.
Talking to the German Ambassador, the chief minister said Pakistan and Germany had deep brotherly relations. He said Germany had expertise in energy sector and Pakistan wanted to benefit from German technology. He said the PML-N government was making serious efforts for overcoming shortage of electricity; power production from solar project of 100 megawatt completed in a record period at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur was continuing successfully. He said that a further 350 megawatt electricity would be generated at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park this year while 550 megawatt next year.
He said the German consultant had shown excellent performance regarding solar project. He said that besides paying special attention to electricity generation from alternative sources, it had also been decided to set up projects of 3,600 megawatt electricity from gas. He said that 2,400 megawatt power projects would be set up by the federal government while 1,200 megawatt projects by the Punjab government with its own resources. He said the cooperation of German companies in energy sector would be welcomed. He said that sincere efforts being made for power generation during the tenure of PML-N government were unprecedented in the country’s history and a number of projects of power generation would be made operational by 2017-18.
German Ambassador while speaking on the occasion said that Germany wanted to promote its relations with Pakistan and steps would be taken for promotion of cooperation with the Punjab government in energy and other sectors.
